Why we started

We started Aikitektly because we've been there ourselves. We went through home renovations and experienced first-hand how confusing, stressful, and expensive the process can be when you don't know the right questions to ask or the right way to describe what you want.

We made costly mistakes. We received quotes that didn't match what we had in mind. We felt out of our depth in conversations with builders and tradespeople. And when we looked for help, we found tools built for contractors, marketplaces that wanted to sell us leads, and generic advice that didn't help us actually plan.

Nothing existed to help ordinary homeowners think through their renovation from their own point of view. So we built it.

The problem we see

When homeowners start a renovation, they face three gaps that no existing tool addresses:

• A knowledge gap. Most people renovate once or twice in their lives. They don't know what to ask, what to expect, or how to evaluate whether a proposal is reasonable. Building professionals do this every day — homeowners don't.

Terms like "first fix," "building control sign-off," or "provisional sums" mean everything to a builder and nothing to most homeowners. This imbalance makes it hard for people to advocate for themselves, compare quotes fairly, or spot problems early.

Existing tools don't solve this. Project management software serves contractors. Online marketplaces match you with builders but don't help you plan. Hiring an architect or designer is expensive and often unnecessary for everyday renovations. There's nothing that helps the homeowner structure their own thinking before they even pick up the phone.
